Beware of PPC Telemarketing Scam!

It was brought to our attention by one of our clients that there may be scammers out there trying to scam and deceive business owners who are marketing through Adwords.

SCAM PROCEDURES:

1. Scammer clicks on a PPC ad and fills out a form on your website with fake information multiple times (1 to 3 times)

2. He/she calls the number of the website allegedly representing Google and offers to fix the issue with “incorrect submissions”.

3. Scammer asks the owner to “confirm” the credit card on file and authorize a “fee to correct the issue”

4. Website owner is out of their money once they realize scammer has nothing to do with Google.

IMPORTANT INFO:

  • Google Adwords usually doesn’t call people without their consent. If they call they will never ask you to pay anything or confirm your credit card.
  • Google will not offer to work with you directly as Google Adwords can only be managed by a person or an agency (not Google)

SUGGESTIONS:

  • Never answer any questions regarding your Google Adwords campaign to anyone who says they represent “Google”
  • Tell them you are already working with an agency and that they should call the agency directly.
  • Inform your Marketing Consultant immediately in case you encounter any anomalies with the campaign.
  • If you get repeated calls, tell this person to STOP contacting you and scamming people and you are going to report them to the pertinent authorities
  • If necessary report this person yourself to the FTC: https://www.ftc.gov/faq/consumer-protection/submit-consumer-complaint-ftc

XTREME WEBSITES ACTIONS:

Provided you have let us know abut this incident, we will:

  • Inspect the form submissions and find the IP of the aggressor and block his/her computer from accessing your website.
  • We can enable an automated phone system to screen all calls (optional but suggested)

FINAL NOTES:

Unfortunately scam artists will always be present in every industry praying on the good heart or ignorance of their victims.
The actions & suggestions aforementioned will go a long way to prevent any or further spam or scam attacks.

Remember that your privacy and satisfaction is very important to us and we will always do everything on our power to help you increase results and minimize threats.

Sincerely,

The Xtreme Websites Team
